Education

At Oakland Presbyterian Church, we are committed to providing spiritual growth opportunities for all ages. From infants to our senior adults, we make Christian growth and continued learning a high priority. We believe that the study of God’s word is not an option – we are called…. . We believe that the Bible is God’s inspired word, the authoritative and trustworthy rule of faith and practice for Christians. The Bible is relevant to the common needs of all people of all times and to the specific challenges of contemporary living. Therefore, we are committed to equipping Christians, through Discipleship and Spiritual Formation, to follow Christ in every aspect of life. There is a place for everyone in the educational and study programs at OPC. Brief summaries of some of the programs available are listed below.

Adult Ministry

Oakland Presbyterian Church offers a variety of classes for adults of all ages every Sunday Morning. Classes range in size from a half dozen to around twenty participants and studies range from specific books of the Bible, Christian Living, church history, theology and creeds, and more. There’s sure to be one that’s right for you. Small group studies meet in various homes throughout the area.

Children’s Ministry

Sunday School is the cornerstone of Christian Education for children. Staffed by volunteer teachers, the Sunday School hour is dedicated to teaching children God’s Word in an exciting variety of classes. Children learn about different Bible characters and themes.  Wednesday evenings provide another great opportunity for children to learn through music, Bible study, crafts, and fellowship. Every summer, the children also have two other opportunities for learning: Vacation Bible School is a week of evening study in June for all children, and Music Camp is offered in July for older children.

Youth Ministry

Regular Sunday studies, Wednesday night group, fellowship programs, combined with mission work and overnight retreats offer middle and high school students the chance for Christian growth while providing them a solid support network.

Women's Ministry

The Women's Ministry of OPC comes together to promote unification and awareness of the various ministry, spiritual growth and outreach opportunities for women in this community.  The Presbyterian Women meet for Bible study the second Monday of each month, in the Fellowship Hall, at 10:30 a.m. The women also meet for studies on Tuesdays at noon, and Wednesday evenings during children's music programs.

Men's Ministry

The mission of the Men's Ministry is to help all men become fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ. The Men’s Prayer Breakfast  is the weekly men's early morning meeting for good food, fellowship, devotions and prayer, starting at 7 a.m. each Tuesday morning in the Fellowship Hall.  The Presbyterian Men meet the fourth Tuesday of each month, for an evening of food, fellowship and interesting programs presented by guest speakers that cover a variety of topics.  All men at invited to join them  at 6:30 p.m., in the Fellowship Hall.  Once a year, the men invite the women of the church to join them for a special dinner honoring the women in their lives.
