This summer, Oakland Presbyterian Church will host its 16th annual Music Camp.  Campers learn how to play recorders, hand drums, hand bells, Orff mallets, and piano.  In addition, students participate in art, dance, drama and Bible study.  Each year, guest musicians give demonstrations of different instruments, and even help the students try out on many of these instruments. The week is full of activities, as the students learn songs, practice lines, and rehearse movement  used in performing a Biblically based musical.  The camp starts at 8 a.m. each weekday, ending at 5 p.m. The musical is completely staged and costumed, and the campers create the backdrop and sets during their art sessions, so it is a very busy week.  They still have time for a field trip on Friday afternoon to the Fun Spot - a highlight for everyone! On Saturday and Sunday, there is time for last rehearsals, and then the presentation on Sunday, where parents, friends and family are all invited to an evening of entertainment and refreshments in the CLC. Many children in West Orange county have participated as students, and they must have fun because they come back every year.  Some former campers later volunteer a week of their time during their high school summer vacation to serve as youth counselors, assisting the students as the learn, grow and have lots of fun.
